The term “cloud computing” began to pop up in IT circles just a few years ago, but is it really such a new idea?  Attend this overview of cloud fundamentals and learn how these concepts and evolving technologies apply to government organizations.  Hear how current networking, storage, and security technologies, combined with increasing pressure on public sector funding, have fueled the hype around this hosted computing model.   This session is intended to provide a fact-based overview of GovCloud initiatives today that will facilitate attendees’ understanding of the concepts and concerns that will be discussed in following conference sessions.

Attendees will learn how:

  • Agencies are looking at cloud computing as an integral and expanding part of their enterprise infrastructures.
  • To assess options for cloud computing, including provider types and services offered.
  • To comply with Office of Management and Budget direction to identify and migrate selected applications to cloud environments.
  • To review legacy and new computing requirements for possible hosting in the cloud.
  • To evaluate cloud-related risks and benefits and consider the cloud to support your agency business and mission objectives
