The Cloud First strategy introduced by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget has expanded agency interest and inclination to adopt new computing methods, while stimulating the creation of  a number of government-wide initiatives to evaluate cloud-related standards, risk management, and best practices.  In the coming Government Fiscal Year, agency professionals will continue to examine how to leverage the flexibility that cloud and virtual computing can deliver, with a particular emphasis on metrics, potential cost reductions, and ways to make operational environments more efficient.  Before wholesale cloud implementations are launched, public sector IT professionals must develop a thorough understanding of how this service-oriented paradigm will impact their day-to-day operations, training, and support.

Attendees will learn how:

  • The Federal Cloud Computing Program Management Office (PMO) is coordinating various projects to enable secure, rapid migration to hosted environments
  • The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) is expected to support agency consumers in early CY2011
  • Agencies are implementing and measuring their cloud migration efforts to demonstrate cost savings and increased operational agility
